Sausage Creole Penne Pasta

My oldest loves to cook, he’s 14 and in the last year he has come a long way in the kitchen. He is at a stage where he actually enjoys cooking more than I do, so I get him in the kitchen whenever possible. The kitchen is the heart of the home, the place our family seems to hang out the most during meals and or when meals are being prepared. So it’s a win-win to the get the kiddos in the kitchen!

 Hamburger Helper®

Hamburger Helper® is the perfect base for a newbie in the kitchen when creating a unique dish. My son created the following recipe with some of his favorites… sausage and the trinity. In Louisiana the trinity consists of onion, celery and bell peppers and sausage is always Andouille, making this a “Creolesc” flavored recipe. {Yes, I do believe I just made up that word}

Here in Louisiana, folks love their Andouille sausage, my boys included. I think they would put sausage in everything if they could. If Andouille sausage is not available where you are, all BEEF sausage works too, of course this would be perfect with ground beef as well. The trinity can be purchased pre -chopped in the frozen section or you can purchase diced tomatoes with the trinity included. We’re all about semi-homemade!

 This is a quick and easy recipe, prefect for busy days when you need a hearty meal. What it’s not lacking is flavor, it’s tangy, sweet and robust.
