I have been blogging since 2001 and micro-blogging since 2005. I have greatly enjoyed the freedom of sharing my thoughts and daily adventures as a homeschool mom to four boys, wife, mom-preneur and social media enthusiast!
A little about us…
I have been married 17 years to one of the greatest Jazz Drummers, we met at the airport in Paris, France in 1993….. God’s plans are not our plans but they are perfect! Who would have thunk I would have to travel half way around the world to find my soul mate?
I am originally from Northern California but currently reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with Troy and our four monkeys… Micah 10, Dominick 8, Ashton 6 and Noah 4. Geaux Tigers!
We also have one gorgeous girl named Nala, our Alaskan Timberwolf Hybrid.
Ain’t she purdy?
I am the founder and director of The Homeschool Lounge – a social network with over 17,500 moms as members. I also created The Homeschool Toolbar, a community toolbar and the number one resource for homeschooling parents. I am a social media junkie and consider myself to be a Social Savvy Mom.
My other areas of expertise include marketing, social media 101 coaching, community building, online training, online buzz generation, new media, online viral marketing & promotions, branding and public speaking.
The Homeschool Lounge is the web’s premier location for Homeschool Moms to connect for support, encouragement, fellowship and fun. What are Social Savvy Moms? CI SUMMARY: As any mother will tell you, there is a big difference between hearing and listening. Today’s Power Mom does it all—the house, the kids, the job, the bills, the shopping—and the Internet has become a tremendous enabler, bringing new meaning to multi-tasking. While the ability to connect with moms is easier than ever before with the advent of social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and a growing number of “mom blogs”, are marketers really listening to her value systems? It’s time to move beyond “messaging” to “listening”.
Social Media gives moms a voice that can be heard well beyond the park bench!
The number of increasingly tech-savvy mothers in the US who use social media has jumped 462% since 2006, according to a recent research study from BabyCenter, LLC.
- The number of moms who use social media regularly (e.g. Facebook, MySpace, The Homeschool Lounge, Cafe Mom, Baby Center, Disney Moms Panel) has significantly increased from 11% to 63% since 2006; a change of 462%.
- More than four in 10 (44%) percent use social media for word-of-mouth recommendations on brands and products and 73% feel they find trustworthy information about products and services through online communities focused on their specific interests such as parenting.
- Moms tend to use mass-reach networks for socializing and entertainment and content-rich environments, while using mom-centric communities to get information and advice from other moms going through the same experiences at a given time.
