Character Journal

The Character Journal is designed to help parents teach Biblical character qualities to their children. Each journal features a different character quality with suggestions for Bible lessons and projects.

Teaching Biblical character is not the same as teaching “manners.” The goal in teaching Biblical character is:

·         To get to know God as He is revealed through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the personification of each of these character qualities. We don’t know what Jesus looked like on the outside; but by studying these character qualities, we have a beautiful picture of what He looked like on the inside. (John 17:3)

·         To become more like Jesus Christ by recognizing this as God’s purpose for each one of us and that He is using the people and circumstances in our lives to accomplish this purpose (Romans 8:28-29).

·         To show our dependence upon God and our constant need of His mercy and grace in our lives (Romans 8:18-19).

We decided some time ago to create a Character Journal and teach a character trait a month in our home as part of our daily Bible study. We keep resources and printables from each months character trait in our journal.  It has made a huge difference in the attitudes and attentiveness of our boys, the results have been nothing short of amazing.

We learned about the Character Chart  through the Duggar website, I then stumbled upon http://www.characterjournal.com/ while looking for resources to go with each trait. Below you can find a list of Character Traits from the Character Journal.

You can visit the site http://www.characterjournal.com/ for more wonderful resources!

What a great idea! We use a curriculum that is character-based (as well as hands-on -which my boys need) and I couldn't agree with you more on the necessity of intentionally teaching godly character.

the character journal sounds neat. I'll have to look into it and see if it will be applicable to us.
